About Evan R. D.

"As a teacher, I aim to help my students satisfy whatever role music plays in their life!" --- Evan is an enthusiastic and dedicated tutor who currently teaches at Leeds Conservatoire and privately from his home in Armley. His students include hobbyists, folk-session-goers and professional musicians and in each case he adapts his materials and teaching style to best suit the needs of the student. He is most well known as mandolinist and singer of 2018 La Roche Band Competition Award winners The Often Herd and has great experience playing and teaching many other stringed instruments including guitar, banjo, ukulele and violin.

He encourages students to learn by ear to develop their listening skills but is accommodating to whatever needs or preferences the student may have. He provides notation, tab, recordings and recommendations and keeps lesson diaries to track progress. The styles within his repertoire include bluegrass, old-time, Irish folk, blues, jazz, klezmer, rock, metal and pop.
