About Emily
Emily is a highly experienced and dedicated vocal tutor who believes in helping all individuals find their true voice through exploration, analysis, and practice. She offers online classes that cater to students of all ages and levels of learning, utilising personalised techniques that work best for each individual. Emily holds a degree specialised in vocals from the British and Irish music institute and has knowledge of contemporary element techniques from Ann Harrison and Catherine Sadolin's Complete Vocal Technique, stagecraft, artist development, and songwriting.
Emily has been developing her own music for the past 5 years, experimenting with different genres, vocal tones, and songwriting techniques. She has an in-depth interest in R&B, Neo-Soul, Blues, and Jazz and can teach all genres. For Emily, singing is not just about technique, but also about confidence, mindset, ability to improvise, unique vocal sound, and most importantly, emotional portrayal and connection with an audience. She draws on her experience in acting, musical theatre, and psychology to help students tap into the emotional aspects of performance and deliver convincing singing performances.
In a first lesson of vocal coaching with Emily, students will be asked to sing a chosen piece to analyze their vocal tone, diction, and performance style. Emily will then run through a range of scales and experiment with adlibs to gain an understanding of the student's range and abilities. To better understand the student's needs, Emily will ask about their vision, motivations, and challenges. This information will help her tailor her teaching approach and formulate lesson plans. This will all be a very similar standard for songwriting, stagecraft and Artist development lessons.
Feedback is an essential part of learning, and Emily is committed to providing honest and constructive feedback to help her students progress. She believes that students are in control of their own progress, and she will direct them to strive for their goals and greatness. With her guidance, students can develop the skills and confidence necessary to excel in the highly competitive music industry.
