About Emily

Emily is a freelance musician and teacher based in London. She has a busy and fulfilling career performing and touring both with her wind quintet and with many of the professional orchestras including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Mozart Players and the Philharmonia Orchestra. She is also on trial with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra in Dublin. Emily loves teaching and is the oboe and piano teacher at Queen Elizabeth's School in Barnet as well as teaching many private students. As well as the individual tuition, she has worked for a number of years with the National Children's Orchestra, has coached ensembles on the English Camerata summer courses and regularly runs workshops in schools with her wind quintet, Chiltern Winds. Emily completed the LRAM Teaching Diploma in 2020.

Emily studied with scholarships at the Royal Academy of Music for both her MA and undergraduate degrees, receiving a BMus First Class Hons Degree and an MA with distinction. She has been lucky to study with many world-class musicians and educators, such as Jonathan Kelly, Chris Cowie, Celia Nicklin and Diethelm Jonas to name a few.

Emily finds teaching extremely rewarding and believes that in order to keep the pupil engaged and therefore make the most progress, lessons should be fun yet challenging. She encourages all of her students to engage with ensemble playing and feels that students learn best when technical aspects are combined with learning lots of repertoire. Emily is always open to suggestions from her students and tailors her lessons to the individual pupil in order to set realistic goals for them.
