About Ella
If you are looking for a welcoming, fun, patient and highly qualified music tutor then look no further! Ella is an accomplished musician with a BMus (Hons) specialising in Solo Performance from the University of Birmingham. Having studied both Cello and Piano performance and Music Theory, Ella now works as a Music Instructor to a wide variety of young people in hospital settings. In her youth, she performed in many competitions including at the Royal Albert Hall in the Music for Youth Proms. Ella specialises in classical music performance, however she enjoys performing in a range of styles and settings, from orchestras to operas to jazz projects.
Music lessons with Ella aim to foster a love for music and enjoyment and desire to improve in playing an instrument and/or studying music.
Cello Lessons
For beginners through to Grade 8 standard cello students of all ages.
Ella’s methods will encourage students to improve and enjoy playing their instrument and pieces, while learning correct technique.
Piano Lessons
For beginners through to Grade 5 standard piano students of all ages.
Ella’s methods will encourage students to improve and enjoy playing their instrument and pieces, while learning correct technique.
Cello/Piano Lesson Format
Lessons will include:
- Warm ups and technique exercises
- Learning ability-appropriate and rewarding pieces, focusing on improving tone, intonation, rhythm and expression
- Reading and interpreting music
- Aural skills training
First lesson
The first lesson will start with an informal chat about what the student would like to gain from the lessons, for example, playing for enjoyment and/or pursuing grades.
Beginners - Ella will then go over some of the basic knowledge of the instrument and the student will be supported to begin learning to play their instrument.
Intermediate and above - Ella would love to hear you play to assess your ability and discuss how she can help you to improve.
Beginners
No need to bring anything along with you other than your willingness to learn! Ella has a spare cello which you can borrow during the first few lessons. After this, options for acquiring your own instrument can be discussed.
