With a pioneering portfolio of internationally published/recorded works for solo piano to her name, Dr Tanya Ekanayaka is an award winning and internationally acclaimed contemporary virtuoso composer-pianist with advanced specialisms in classical, folk and world music, composing exclusively for solo piano and performing her own music, as well as being a scholar.

Aside from her primary work as an international composer-pianist, recording artiste and producer, she is also a passionate educator involved in outreach and possessing over 20 years of experience teaching and conducting recital/performance seminars in universities in (South & East) Asia, Europe and North America, as well as devoting time to coaching privately, a select group of (both advanced and young) students.

I was fortunate to study under Tanya whilst a student at Edinburgh University, during which I received the highest mark in the United Kingdom for ABRSM Grade 8 piano and obtained first-class honours. Tanya has an extremely patient and encouraging nature which, coupled with her prowess as a performer, ensured that every lesson was enjoyable and worthwhile. She is a dedicated teacher and I will be forever grateful for her willingness to answer a call to discuss piano matters or have a quick chat!

I have known Dr Tanya Ekanayaka for four years whilst taking my undergraduate music degree at the University of Edinburgh where she has taught me composition and has been teaching me piano since.
