About Dominic
I am an experienced musician and educator, who has been teaching within schools for the past decade, including acting as the Director of Music at St Dunstan's College for the previous 6 years. In this role, I expanded the Music Department rapidly, developing an innovative programme that saw unprecedented numbers of pupils electing to do the subject at GCSE and A Level. I am therefore deeply committed to providing an outstanding educational experience to young people and adapting my teaching accordingly to suit the strengths and passions of all musicians. Most importantly, I believe that to be musical is a key part of being human, and that one can develop their inherent musical faculties through dedicated teaching, a steady practice regime and natural curiosity. Central to this is making the educational experience fun and fostering a passion that will lead to high levels of motivation to improve!
I am a singer (bass), pianist and cellist, as well as being hugely experienced in running musical groups and conducting large-scale concerts and productions. After a period in the classroom, I am now looking to specialise in teaching these instruments, while developing my own performing career. I would be able to teach these disciplines up to grade 8 level, as well as providing expertise in preparing for music theory examinations, developing aural skills. I am also very familiar with the process of preparing students for scholarship auditions, having sat on the adjudicating panel for many years!
I am a very experienced piano accompanist, having accompanied school students for ABRSM and Trinity exams up to grade 8. I would be able to offer my accompaniment services for my students in their performance exams, as well as for other students.
I hold a first-class degree in Music from Oxford University and a PGCE in Music Education. Prior to becoming a performer, I attained grade 8 distinction in Piano, Voice and Cello, as well as DipABRSM diplomas in Cello and Voice.
