About Cormac
I am an internationally credited professional singer, and graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, London, where I recieved an MA in Musical Theatre and an LRAM teaching qualification. Before this, I trained as a choral scholar and Music undergraduate at the Queen's College, University of Oxford. As a result of this high-level and varied education, and my experience as a performer, I have a lot of knowledge and passion to share about musicianship, vocal technique and storytelling!
YOUR FIRST LESSON
In our first session together, we'll spend some time exploring your vocal range, what kinds of sounds you are more comfortable making, and where the areas to target are. We'll then work on a song that you already like singing - all so I can get a good idea of where we are starting from! I'll then give you a set of recommended songs to have a listen to, and for you to come in to our future sessions with.
FOLLOWING LESSONS
I ask that the client brings one or two songs that they'd like to be able to sing, in the form of a backing track, or sheet music. These can be from my set of recommendations or not, but I'll be able to consult you with repertoire ideas throughout, across musical theatre, pop, folk, rock, choral or classical song genres, depending on your interests!
I will also give you exercises tailored to your vocal needs in areas of technique including:
-Breath
-Extending range
-'Purity' and consistency of sound
-Vocal agility
-Volume control
-Maintaining vocal health
-Song and text interpretation
-Belt/Vibrato/Falsetto and other vocal qualities
For this reason, I recommend that clients bring a device (e.g. phone) for recording our sessions, so they can go away and practice what we have worked on!
MUSIC THEORY AND ARRANGING
As a First-Class BA Music graduate of Oxford University, I can prepare you for ABRSM and Trinity Theory exams up to grade 8, as well as tuition for GCSE and A Level Music. I will give you a thorough understanding of the concepts and their practical uses, through an engaging mixture of worksheets, listening games, and mock tests.
I also have experience as a writer and arranger for vocal ensembles including The Oxford Gargoyles and Lo-Five, as well as Barbershop ensembles, and workshopping my choral music with the BBC Singers. As such, I am very...
