About Clifford

Beginning and return trumpet lessons. I specialise in helping new students of all ages get started, as well as helping those coming back after a break.

I teach in person in London at Schott Music or the Music Studios once per month with the rest of our weekly sessions being online. I am available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

In our first lesson we will talk about your musical interests, goals, and knowledge. Based on this conversation I will propose how we go about achieving your goals. After each lesson, I will send an email explaining the material we covered, as well as material to be covered until our next lesson. I am passionate about classical and jazz music,, but whether you are into Beethoven or James Brown, I will help you start–or restart– your music journey.

To get the most out our sessions, it is recommended that you purchase lessons in blocks of 40 to help achieve your long term learning goals as well as to get the most value. If you would be interested in discussing one-off lessons, I am happy to discuss a different pricing structure during your free 15 minute online consultation.

I am an active music teacher and trumpet player in South Wales, playing for the Porthcawl Community Orchestra, Swansea Philharmonia, and occasionally for the Constellation Big Band. I have taught private music tuition to school-aged and mature students since 2001, before I went to study music composition at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. While pursuing my postgraduate degree in composition from Bath Spa University, I was the director of the University of Bath Concert Band, which premiered one of my compositions in 2020. I also received jazz tuition for three years, including a summer at the Stanford Jazz Workshop in 2001. My first performed composition was a jazz piece co-written with a friend at the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society Band Camp. I have also performed as a pianist in cocktail bars, weddings, fundraisers and jazz bands.
