About Clare
Clare is qualified with a Bachelors of Music from Goldsmiths, University of London (BMus with Hons) and a PGCE with QTS in Secondary Music from the University of Roehampton. Clare, as a teacher, aims to inspire all students to enjoy music making, form personal connections with music and further inspire lifelong learning and engagement. This ethos has developed over the expansion of her subject knowledge during her bachelors and the development of her musical pedagogy during the course of her PGCE (University of Roehampton - PGCE with QTS). These experiences have allowed Clare to develop into a more versatile and passionate music practitioner. Clare has 15 years of experience playing the violin. During this time she has developed her playing through various different styles and advanced playing techniques.
Teacher of Music - Secondary Level
Clare is a qualified Teacher of Music currently teaching in an 'outstanding' Bromley Secondary school. She was formally educated at the University of Roehampton (PGCE with QTS) where she carried out various educational placements that aided the advancement of her musical pedagogy. Due to this breadth of experience and education Clare is well versed in all aspects of the national music curriculum at KS3, KS4 and KS5 level.
Violin Teacher
Clare teaches violin for beginners and intermediate of all ages. Violin lessons with Clare include:
- The correct way to hold our violin and bow (ensuring proper posture)
- Bow Stokes (how to achieve a clear sound from your violin)
- Musical expression and performance
- Pitch and rhythm exercises (to aid students new to reading sheet music)
- Working through any fears or anxieties that may come alongside performing
- Exercises and help related to any specific goal (discussed before hand) For example; vibrato, spiccato, 3rd-5th position.
GCSE and Music Theory tutor
As a qualified classroom teacher Clare is very knowledgeable on various exam board specifications for music. She currently teaches the Eduqas Music GCSE syllabus to her Year 10 cohort. She teaches across all three strands of the syllabus (Performance, Composition, Listening and Appraising). Clare will be able to aid in your musical analysis of each area of study including set works.
