About Clare

About Me

Hi, I’m Clare — and I believe everyone can be a musician.

My lessons are creative, encouraging and tailored to you. I aim to create a positive space where you can explore, grow in confidence and enjoy making music. I balance fun with the right level of challenge, so you feel supported as you develop.

One-to-one lessons allow me to get to know you as an individual. I shape sessions around your interests and goals, helping you track your progress along the way. I truly believe all progress is progress — and it deserves to be noticed and celebrated.

I studied Music at the University of Birmingham and went on to achieve an LRSM in Saxophone, an ATCL (Distinction) in Clarinet, and Qualified Teacher Status. Over the past 10 years I’ve taught through a local music service, in schools and privately, working with children and adults from complete beginners to advanced players.

I specialise in contemporary classical repertoire and am happy to explore other styles that inspire you.

Your First Lesson

Your first lesson is relaxed and welcoming. We’ll begin with an informal chat about your musical journey so far (even if it hasn’t started yet!) and what you’d like to work towards. You’re welcome to ask any questions too.

Beginners can simply bring themselves and their instrument. If you already have books or pieces, feel free to bring them — but there’s no pressure. If you’ve been playing a while, you can share something you know or try something new.

Exams — If You Want Them

I have extensive experience preparing students for ABRSM and Trinity exams and am very happy to support you through them.

Exams are always optional. If you’d prefer a more flexible approach, I can design a personalised programme focused on the music you love.

Beginners Welcome

Starting something new can feel daunting — but everyone begins somewhere. If you’re new to clarinet or saxophone, you’re very welcome here.

It’s helpful to have your own instrument for practice and a notebook to record ideas. While I can’t provide instruments, I’m happy to advise on renting or purchasing options.
