About Clare

Clare offers stimulating lessons in a positive atmosphere of experiential learning. She believes every person can be a musician, and sees her role as a teacher to unlock her students' best potential, matching enjoyment with encouragement and appropriate challenge. Clare loves the possibilities that individual lessons provide to get to know her students as unique individuals, adapting lessons to suit their interests and aims. She believes all students should be able to track their progress and gain a sense of achievement as they work towards goals, developing their skills and acquiring new ones. Clare believes all progress is progress and therefore all of it should be noticed and celebrated.

First Lesson
The first lesson begins with an opportunity for an informal chat about yourself and your musical journey so far, including any musical adventures you've had (if any!) and also any goals or aspirations. You can also ask Clare any questions you might have. If you're a complete beginner, feel free to bring just yourself and your instrument to your first lesson. If you have any pieces or books you've been learning from, you're welcome to bring those along too, but it's also absolutely fine if you don't have any. If you've been playing for a while, feel free to bring a piece to play, or equally feel free to try out something new.

Graded Exams
Clare has years of experience guiding students through both ABRSM and Trinity syllabuses with great success, and if you’re interested in this Clare would be delighted to assist you. Equally if you prefer a less structured approach, Clare can create a tailor made programme specifically to suit your needs, to get you playing the music that matters to you.

Beginners
Complete beginners are absolutely welcome! Clare has a strong belief that anyone can play the clarinet and saxophone, and remembers she was a beginner once too. It can be very helpful to have your own instrument to practice between lessons, and also a notebook to write down practice points. Clare cannot provide an instrument, however she is happy to discuss various options available for renting or purchasing an instrument if and when that's helpful.
