About Chris

Hi. My names Chris and I’m great at getting pupils started on the instruments I offer. I’ve taught over 17000 pupils during my career and write bespoke music to inspire and motivate based on ability. My lessons are fun and engaging, using backing tracks to support practice between lessons. Technique is key to success and much time in lessons is spent getting the key principles right to support future learning.
Learning is Fun
I currently teach a mixture of instruments. My main focus, whatever age my pupils are, is to really explore music whilst learning principles, technical language and how to play. I’m a big fan of multiple activities within a lesson. I’m very pupil centred and follow the needs of every individual, whatever their preferences, whether you want to do grades, play for fun or just explore the instrument you have chosen.
What and how do I teach
I use a blend of music that’s available to buy but I also like to look at different styles of music. For my younger players I have written many exercises that support learning in a fun way to help develop muscle memory and technical ability. I enjoy writing music for pupils or easy versions of music that they listen to or are inspired by. With an age range of current pupils from 4-53, there’s never one lesson that is the same and I specifically tailor my lessons to the individual.

I’ve developed, over time, ‘tricks and short cuts’ that can accelerate learning for pupils but ultimately the main goal of my teaching is to foster a love of playing an instrument. I’ve been so fortunate to have had excellent teachers and the opportunities that playing an instrument brings, making friends and do things and going places that I never would have thought possible.
Music is such a powerful and beneficial tool and learning, whatever you want that to look like, is an amazing and powerful experience.
Thank you for reading.
