About Charlotte
I provide lessons tailored to each individual, working towards the student’s personal goals while creating a supportive, encouraging, and inclusive learning environment. Whether students are complete beginners, preparing for exams, or simply learning for enjoyment, lessons are adapted to suit different learning styles, abilities, and musical interests. I aim to help every student develop both musical skills and confidence in a way that feels engaging and achievable.
Lessons take place in my home studio in Widnes and are taught on a Yamaha Clavinova CVP-701. I believe that learning an instrument should be a fun and enjoyable experience. Lessons are semi-structured, with lessons planned around your individual progress from week to week. I do encourage my students to express what they want to learn, and I can alter my teaching and lesson plans to suit you and your preferred learning methods.
Our first lesson will focus on getting to know one another. If you can already play the piano, it is useful to prepare a piece to show me what you can do. I will establish your current level on the piano, find out about your musical interests, and help you to set clear goals.
Over the weeks, we will work on a range of skills, including keyboard location, melody and harmony, rhythm, developing your musical ear, and expression. You will also develop non-musical skills including confidence, creativity, perseverance, and patience.
Students can follow the graded exam system (ABRSM) if they wish to do so. Students do not have to follow grades, however, and can simply learn for enjoyment and pleasure. I have a library of books and resources that we can use in our lessons, however, feel free to bring your own sheet music and books too.
I receive yearly safeguarding training. I currently teach a wide range of students from the age of 10, to 55+.
