About Carla J

Carla is a violist who has been playing music for approximately 15 years and is passionate about using music as a way to communicate, build confidence and increase wellbeing. In Carla’s lessons, you will learn the foundations of classical music, exploring a wide range of composers from different cultures and backgrounds and its relevance in the 21st century, including the skills and techniques needed to complete your stringed grade exams here in the UK. Whilst having access to your own instrument is essential, Carla will be happy to tune your instrument, offer advice about instrument suitability and provide you with a range of sheet music to help you develop your musical skills.

Like many UK musicians, Carla began her musical journey on a treble recorder which later resulted in further interest in learning the violin and viola later on. Carla loves to share her musical passion with others who desire to grow in the craft and understand classical music away from the pages of history and into the wonders of everyday life. Carla has recently qualified as a Music Therapist from the at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she uses her musicality within various health and social settings..

Growing up, Carla was also an active member of several auditioned youth ensembles including the Birmingham Symphony for Schools Orchestra and Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, going on to graduate with a first class with honours in BA Music and Psychology in 2021. Carla has also played in a range of orchestral ensembles across the UK such as the Caledonian Chamber Orchestra and the Irish Chamber Orchestra Academy. She has performed solos at charity events, summer festivals and participated in charity-based collaborative studio projects with musicians who engage in pop, contemporary and other 21st century musical genres. Carla has also engaged in musical projects with the Music Service that encourage and more interactive-based musical education in schools.

In your first lesson, we will establish good posture, explore the set up of a violin/viola, build a basic foundation of music theory and how to develop a disciplined yet confident mindset. You will also learn to apply the classical stylistic techniques and choices to different genres including pop, rock, R&B, Soul and Hip-Hop. Carla will work with you to learn and strengthen your string techniques, develop healthy musical habits and improvisational techniques on the v...
