About Boyd
Proud to be a part of The Vic Firth PDT program, drum kit tuition can be provided for:
The serious drummer.
The just for fun drummer.
The anywhere-in-between drummer!
Teaching professionally since 2003, Boyd has worked in a wide variety of settings, including
1 to 1 tuition with students aged 4 - 80, small group sessions in schools, junk percussion ensembles that culminate in community performances and working with autistic students individually and in a school setting as a music therapist. This variety of experience allows for an inclusive approach to music education.
For beginners, the general approach is to dive in headfirst, with the aim of students leaving their first lesson armed with the foundational structure of a song, ready to showcase their budding skills to friends and family.
For more experienced players, the early focus will be on understanding their goals and interests, so that their lessons are relevant, engaging and aligned with what they want to achieve, whether it be just for fun or with more serious aspirations in mind.
Boyd teaches from a purpose-built teaching and recording studio in Warsash, so students have the exciting opportunity to enjoy a realistic recording studio session experience to enhance their learning journey. This dedicated learning space also allows Boyd to blend trusted methodologies with modern technology, using visual and auditory aids to facilitate learning and promote confident advancement in the student's drumming ability.
As a player, Boyd considers himself an eternal student and continues to study with some of the biggest names in the drumming industry, so he can bring their world-class insights and methods to you.
As a player, Boyd has been drumming and performing since 1994, having played across the UK, Europe, and America, including performances at SxSW and alongside renowned acts like Snow Patrol and The Proclaimers.
He continues to be a regular on the local gigging scene, putting into practice the skills he teaches to his students.
As a qualified life and performance coach, Boyd can also offer professional development services to take your career to the next level.
