About Ben Broughton
With 11+ years experience, working for clients including FIFA, MTV, Nike and Netflix, Ben is a highly proficient music producer, sound designer and audio installation artist.
Behind these achievements is years spent dedicated to Ben's craft. With a first class MA in Music Production, airplay on stations such as BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6 and a DJ schedule which has taken him from Hungary to LA, Ben has always had a talent for crafting high quality productions over a breadth of musical styles.
Ben's passion has always been to share his knowledge with others. As a tutor, his goal is to use his experience producing music to help people get the results they want with their own music. In his own words: "I’m not here to tell you what to make, all I’m here to do is help get your great ideas sounding amazing!"
Teaching Music Production
Ben teaches on Ableton, or Logic Pro X, where he is a Apple certified instructor. Tutoring is flexible and is either in person or remotely.
Ben's teaching style is ultimately led by you, the student - together, you will plan the lessons based on your own musical tastes and learning objectives, ensuring that everything you learn is relevant to your own interests as a producer and to your musical tastes. This means that if you want an entire course based on sound design, or on improving your mixdown skills, Ben can make this happen! The student always comes first with Ben, who can offer you a wide range of knowledge catered specifically to your needs and requirements.
Throughout the time together, you will be encouraged to develop and evolve your own unique musical sound. You will always be supported in devising your own formulas and methods for producing music, whilst also learning the technical aspects of modern music production such as sound design, mixing and synthesis.
Some examples of topics covered:
- Music arrangement
- Understanding different audio effects (e.g. reverb, compression, distortion, etc.)
- Sound design
- Sampling
- Synthesis (additive, FM, subtractive, wavetable, etc.)
- Mixing down tracks
- Creating punchy drums
- Re-sampling
- Understanding the language of music production
