About Asha
I am equally trained in both Jazz and Classical music, and I maintain an active creative profile as a composer, saxophonist, and arranger. With 9+ years of teaching experience, an MA in Composition (Oxford), and a BMus in Music Performance (Guildhall), I tailor lessons to meet the unique needs and interests of each student. I have taught students of all ages in both peripatetic and private contexts.
As the leader of my 14-piece cross-genre band, KALPADRUMA, I have released two albums—our latest on the Ubuntu label—and performed at prestigious venues across the country, including Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club and the Union Chapel. My commitment to community music is evident through initiatives like the 'Voices Beyond Divisions' project in 2017, where I brought together a children's choir singing for peace. In 2023 and 2024, I taught on the Community Music modules at the University of Kent. I was also a semi-finalist in the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year competitions in 2016, 2018, and 2020.
About the Lessons
I believe in developing holistic musicianship alongside technique. Even when preparing students for classical piano or saxophone grades, I ensure there is space within lessons for them to explore their own musical interests. I can teach piano up to Grade 8 (classical and jazz), saxophone at all levels, and music theory/composition. I am also comfortable designing lessons that improve instrumental skills outside of exam contexts, or relaxed play-along sessions if the goal is just to have fun with music.
Where Will the Lessons Take Place?
I am based in Greenwich and lessons take place at my home studio or online.
