About AnnieMay
My aim is to inspire my pupils to enjoy making music as much as me! I am happy to tailor lessons to suit the needs of the individual, whether this be completing exam syllabuses, or simply playing for fun. I have a fun and friendly approach to teaching, and will aim to build up the confidence of my students in their music making, by creating a structured learning environment, in which they can see the progress they are making.
I have a Masters degree from The Royal Academy of Music, and I completed my Undergraduate degree at the Guildhall School Music and Drama, studying the violin and viola. I have been playing the violin since the age of 6, and also studied at the Purcell School of Music on a full scholarship, and the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music. I now freelance professionally as a violist with many of the UK orchestras alongside my teaching.
I have experience teaching the violin and viola with a mixture of ages and abilities, ranging from beginners to adult learners, and over the last year I have also been teaching over zoom. Outreach work played a big role in my studies, and as a member of IMPULSE at Purcell, and the Commonwealth Resounds I have led musical workshops for children across the UK, and internationally.
