About Andy

Great to meet you!
I’m Andy, your friendly and skilled Clarinet, Saxophone and Piano teacher, based in Reading, Berkshire.

About Me
I have over fifteen years of experience teaching music, and have been playing for more than thirty years! In addition to my DipABRSM diploma in Clarinet, I have a PGCE teaching degree and have worked with local state schools, prep schools and music hubs.

Learn With Me
I enjoy teaching both children and adults and can help you pursue graded music exams, jazz improvisation, or simply help you enjoy the freedom of mastering an instrument. A typical lesson with me involves reviewing your progress against your goals, developing posture and technique, exploring music theory, and identifying expressive opportunities within each piece. I am an experienced piano accompanist which enables me to add an extra dimension to your lessons, playing along with you to enrich your music-making experience. I employ coaching techniques in my work to ensure that you are able to transfer what you learn to other musical contexts.

My Influences
I have a strong grounding in Classical clarinet repertoire, having studied with internationally renowned performers like Lesley Schatzberger and the late Alan Hacker. I have an interest in contemporary Jazz music and was fortunate enough to study with the late John Taylor. I was a key contributor to the Kalenda Music Podcast and worked with French Jazz pianist Sebastien Billon to produce the first recording of his composition ‘22h22’.

I look forward to meeting you and welcome any questions that you have.
