About Andrew
Andrew Lisle is an internationally touring jazz musician and drum teacher based in London. Known for his high level of technical ability and musicality, he is sought out by some of the finest drummers on the UK jazz scene to share his knowledge.
For beginner to intermediate students his teaching focuses on: developing a strong technical foundation, understanding rhythmic structures and approaches (from basic to advanced), playing in a wide variety of styles, and importantly - nourishing the enjoyment available to us when we play the drums. For beginner students - a weekly lesson of 30 minutes to 1 hour is recommended. For intermediate - a weekly lesson of 1 hour is recommended.
For advanced students he offers help and assistance with: breaking through technical barriers, developing a healthy relationship with practice, approaches to finding "your own voice" on the drums, and in depth musical analysis of the greats. For advanced students a 2 hour lesson every two weeks is recommended.
The first lesson with Andrew will be a chance to discuss goals and aspirations, allow him to get an idea of your current level, and talk styles and musical interests. All allowing a strong lesson plan and teaching approach to be formulated. His teaching studio is located in The Blue Studios, Leyton E10. It is recommended to bring a pair of sticks and a notepad to the first lesson.
Andrew has over 15 years experience teaching students from primary school age upwards to adults. With their experience levels ranging from complete beginner to music conservatoire graduates and professionals. He was a drum tutor at Windsor Piano Academy for over five years and has taught private lessons throughout London since 2013. Both in person and online lessons can be provided.
His background as a professional musician is in the world of jazz and improvised music. He is an in demand sideman and session musician, as well as a bandleader and composer in his own right. He has played, toured, and recorded with some of the most respected musicians currently working on the UK and European scene (inc. Kit Downes, John Edwards, Ab Baars, Rodrigo Amado).
