About Amy
Amy has over 11 years experience of teaching piano and double bass both privately and at Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh, giving pupils a strong technical grounding in a calm environment, using positive language to encourage and motivate.
With much experience in preparing for the ABRSM exams, the majority of Amy’s pupils achieve merit or distinction, although there is no pressure at all to sit exams and lessons are tailored to the individual. She is able to nurture talents in composition and songwriting, as well as teaching music theory and good practice techniques, and can travel to the pupil’s home in Glasgow or Edinburgh or teach online over Zoom or Skype.
Amy studied double bass at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, achieving a BA (musical studies) degree. Since then she has released 8 albums of her own music, featuring her string arrangements and performance on piano, double bass and guitar. Amy performs her songs live regularly in venues throughout the UK and has had her work played on Netflix ‘Charmed’, BBC Radio 2 and BBC6 music. with support from Creative Scotland and an album licensed to Linn Records.
Being classically trained has taught her the importance of discipline with her songwriting career providing a creative balance. Music is a very personal thing that holds great potential for self expression and enjoyment for everyone and it is very important to Amy to recognise individual strengths and to guide the pupil in the musical direction that feels natural to them.
Teaching from age 6 to 106! Whatever stage you are at in your musical journey, please feel free to contact Amy for more information and to book a lesson.
