About Alex
Alex is an experienced violin, piano and music theory teacher who is passionate about presenting musical education to people of all ages and abilities. She is very eager to introduce music in an accessible way to people with little or no background in playing an instrument and happy to encourage and develop those who have already begun their musical studies. Alex has been teaching privately since 2016 and has also taught in schools and music centres in the past. She has experience in working with young people with special educational needs and/or disability and holds a Level 2 Teaching Assistant Diploma as well as an SEND Teaching Skills Diploma (Level 4).
No two people are the same, so all lessons with Alex are personalised to ensure that maximum enjoyment and progress can be made. Focusing on correct technique and posture is an essential part of progressing on any musical instrument and Alex is keen to make sure that you are playing in the best possible way. A keen arranger, Alex frequently creates musical material specifically for her students. She is also happy to teach students in line with ABRSM or Trinity Guildhall exam guidelines if that approach is preferred.
Originally from Christchurch, New Zealand, Alex moved to London in 2006, where she was awarded a full scholarship to study at the Purcell School of Music. Since then, she performs regularly in many prestigious venues around London including, Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Buckingham Palace, Barbican Hall, Cadogan Hall, LSO St. Lukes, Princess Alexandra Hall and Kings Place.
In 2010, Alex was awarded “The Henry Weinrebe Award” scholarship by the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London) studying there with Professor David Takeno. Following her graduation in 2014, she commenced her postgraduate studies at The Royal College of Music with Radu Blidar and Yuri Zhislin graduating in July 2017 with a Masters in Music Performance and the Artist Diploma Qualification.
