About Alessandra A.

Hello I am Alessandra! I am an enthusiastic flute teacher and professional flautist (MMus in flute and BMus in Chamber music), freelance performer living in Newcastle upon Tyne.
I am a flexible, passionate and friendly teacher. I love teaching flute and music, shaping my lecturing style on the individual needs and interests of the student(s) from Y6 (8/9 years old) to adults.
I focus on the student's personal goals, encouraging and supporting a sustained engagement with the studies and constant progression.
I have been teaching for 20+ years and teach all grades and abilities.
I am a Flute Performance teacher at Durham University, Flute and Music Performance teacher for GCSE/A-Level at the EC in Gateshead and Young Musician Programme flute tutor (YMP) at Sage-Gateshead. I teach in schools and privately.
I have entered pupils for and prepare students for the ABRSM examination from grade 1 to Diploma levels, Trinity examinations, flute Diploma and University Flute Performance exams (ATCL, LTCL and FTCL) and GCSEs and A-levels performance. I have 100% pass rate in both practical and theory exam.

As a performer contemporary music has been central in my interests since the awarding of the Berio Prize, for the best performance of Sequenza I at the Severino Gazzelloni Fellowships competition in Florence in 2002. I play the flute (alto, bass and piccolo) in two renowned Italian contemporary music ensembles: Imago Sonora and Piccola Accademia degli Specchi (of which I am also one of the founders). As a member of the latter, I had the fortune of participating in and playing at some of the major music festivals dedicated to contemporary music across Europe, and I recorded several albums for international labels. I have played in many Italian and European orchestras as Principal, Second flute and piccolo. In UK I have been collaborating as second flute in the RNS (Royal Northern Sinfonia) in Newcastle upon Tyne.

I am the BFS (British Flute Society) UK Area Representative in Newcastle upon Tyne.
I can teach in English, in Italian and in Spanish.
I really look forward meeting you!
