The Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM)
The Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) is the UK's professional body for musicians and a subject association for music.
Since 1882, they have been dedicated to promoting the importance of music and protecting the rights of those working in the music profession. The ISM campaigns tirelessly in support of musicians' rights, music education and the music profession. They are a financially independent not-for-profit organisation with no political affiliation. This independence allows them the freedom to campaign on any issue affecting music professionals.
What does the ISM offer music teachers?
They support over 10,500 members across the UK and Ireland with unrivalled legal advice and representation, comprehensive insurance cover, an unpaid fees recovery service, a DBS checking service, tax and business support, award-winning professional development, counselling and physiotherapy services, and much more. ISM members come from all areas of the music profession and from a wide variety of genres and musical backgrounds, including thousands of music teachers.Find out more about ISM membership.
For parents and students, the ISM is a stamp of professionalism
When members join the ISM, they must confirm their professional status, which is a unique requirement amongst music membership organisations. This means you can rest assured that you are working with a proven music professional when you have lessons with an ISM member.
