Ed Sheeran's Music Foundation

Did you know that Ed Sheeran is passionate about supporting the next generation of musicians? Read more to find out if his Music Foundation is suitable for you.

Early days

Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire and he moved to Framlingham, Suffolk at a very young age, and spent most of his childhood there.

It was here that he met his wife, Cherry Seaborn, who was a childhood friend from secondary school.  They married in 2019 and she was the inspiration for the song “Perfect”.  They had their first child, Lyra in 2020.

Sheeran's first guitar was given to him as a gift by his uncle. Ed initially taught himself, before going on to have proper music lessons. He still visits his old school in Framlingham, Suffolk where he was able to practise and nurture his musical talents.

Ed Sheeran "Suffolk Music Foundation"

Suffolk is very important to Sheeran together with his support of local musical life. To this end, he started the Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation to support young people living in Suffolk with small but useful grants to help with studying or playing music. He writes “These grants could be used for almost anything, such as buying an instrument, funding your music studies, or paying for rehearsal space. Just let the foundation know what you’d like to do when applying!”
