We should have high expectations of each other

You should expect nothing less than a fantastic service from us. We have high expectations of you as well! We want to build a platform which celebrates a quality experience for all who use it.

Most likely you will:

  • Have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a music specialism
  • Be an established or aspiring music professional
  • Have experience as a private music teacher

That said, we recognise that music is a broad church. We’re open to the fact that you may have equivalent skills and experience acquired outside of the graduate route - whether that’s holding an LRSM or leading J’ouvert at carnival.

How much does MusicTeachers.co.uk charge in platform fees?

To keep the platform safe, invest in you, and ensure a high level of service, we charge platform fees. Platform fees vary depending on the type of lesson and the choices made by the student. The lowest platform fee is 10% and the highest is 33%. In 2022, the average platform fee was 18.9%.

Of the fees collected by the platform in 2022

  • 81.1% were teacher fees
  • 18.9% were platform fees

Whilst platform fees vary for different services and products, the average platform fee in 2022 was 18.9%.

Lower platform fees on longer commitments

The platform fee is highest on single lessons and lowest on larger blocks of lessons. We built the system this way because we want students to think about learning music for the long term. So it follows that we incentivise this commitment with a lower platform fee and therefore a lower price. To ensure that all blocks are affordable, we offer instalment plans at no extra cost.

Lower platform fees for higher membership levels

The more hours you teach through the platform, the lower the platform fee will be. You’ll start on a Basic membership level where the lowest possible platform fee is 16.67% and then gradually advance through Bronze, Silver, Gold and finally Platinum where the lowest possible fee is 10%.
